From Millennials, Ecko Show Instead Gets Music Inspiration From Hanging Out With Gen Z

JAKARTA - The name Ecko Show is increasingly known among young people, thanks to the song New People Lebe Gacor, with its phrase so viral, tor monitor chairman.

Ekko himself is not a new name on the Indonesian Eastern music scene. The 39-year-old singer and rapper has been in his music career since 2006.

But 2025 is a turning point in his career. Not only the song New People Lebe Gacor which is widely used as background music on TikTok, he is also the red of his first AMI trophy through the category of Best Solo Rap/Hip-Hop Artists.

Not without reason, when Ecko, who incidentally came from the millennial generation, his work managed to get a place among Gen Z. He admitted that inspiration for writing lyrics often arises from his association with people who are much younger than him.

(Inspirations) are usually from hangouts. I hang out never the same age. I hang out with young people, because inspiration comes from them," said Ekko in Kuningan, South Jakarta recently.

Being left with those who are much younger does not mean that Ekko must 'lowen' himself. His association with young people is often filled with many discussions that are tough, one of which is talk about politics.

"We even talk about politics," he said. There's never been inspiration when hanging out with the same age. So, I hang out with ABG (New Children Gede).

Furthermore, Ekko said, he had been living with young people for a long time.

"Mylongsan has never wanted to be with the same generation. I hang out with young people," he concluded.

So, it's no wonder that Ekko, who was born on September 17, 1986, can still be relevant to his listeners who were born in the 21st century.
