Rian D'Masiv Calls State Presence Important For Improvement Of Royalty Governance

JAKARTA - Rian D'Masiv stated that he is still observing all developments regarding efforts to improve the governance of music royalties in Indonesia.

The D'Masiv vocalist stated that the involvement of the state in efforts to improve royalty governance was very important. For him, problems cannot be resolved without the presence of the state.

"Hopefully the state can really be here. Because if the state is not present, it will not be able to be fixed," Rian said when met in Antasari, South Jakarta, Tuesday, October 28.

"You have to make regulations that side with musicians, you have to make laws that are in favor of songwriters. Don't just certain groups benefit," continued the 38-year-old vocalist.

Rian said that many musicians being silent does not mean they don't think about how royalties can end with improvements. He himself finds out a lot, how the economic rights of the songwriters can be channeled properly.

We are also struggling in other ways. For example, yesterday we were invited to the Music Expo (in Los Angeles, USA). There were many world music actors, and there I also asked, what is the royalty mechanism for performing rights in America. So, I also tried to keep asking questions or asking questions and dig again. Because, I really believe what is being fought for is for the welfare of musicians, for the welfare of composers," he said.

"Because to be honest, in Indonesia, we should 'with the example of D'Masiv which has songs that have hundreds of millions of streams', thelogic thing is that if this industry sided with musicians, we would be rich," he added.

Rian also took several examples of old songwriters, whose lives were actually difficult financially, even though the song was a big success on the market.

"Maybe at this time we still haven't got what we should get, but we also can't be apath with this industry, because later this will not be for us, but for our children and grandchildren later," he concluded.
