JAKARTA - The Indonesian Musical Festival (FMI) has again presented an inclusive stage to showcase the rich culture of the archipelago. This annual event that brings together songs, dances and dramas will take place at Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM), Central Jakarta on November 14 - 16.

This year, FMI 2025 carries the spirit of expanding participation through an open call mechanism or open invitation for musical art actors throughout Indonesia. This step was taken after the successful selection of talents from outside Java at the previous year's event.

With this system, communities, regional studios, and independent groups are encouraged to submit their work, in order to get the opportunity to appear on the national stage after going through the curation process.

More than 80 musical communities from all over the country register to participate. After passing the administrative selection and concept assessment, as many as 32 communities were selected to continue to the presentation session of ideas (pitching).

Through a strict process that was curated by the expert council consisting of Mariska (tari), Gabriel Harvianto (vocals), Oni Krisnerwinto (music), Rangga Riantiarno (team), and Iskandar Loedin (artistics). finally, eight official communities were chosen to appear on the stage of the work.

FMI 2025 promises to improve quality in terms of production and viewing experience. A total of 12 communities from Bali, Surabaya, Solo, and Jakarta will feature a total of 12 performance works. The works will be staged in three theaters at the TIM complex: Great Theater, Small Theater, and Wahyu Sihombing Theater.

Each stage is designed to present immersive visuals through a combination of modern, powerful artistic lighting, and orchestral music arrangements combined with the nuances of regional culture.

Meanwhile, Quinn Salman as the Brand Ambassador of the 2025 FMI also expressed his enthusiasm for this event. He welcomed the involvement of musical communities from various regions.

"It's really fun to be part of this year's Indonesian Musical Festival. As a person who grows up in a musical environment, it feels good to see many friends from various regions perform and share stories through their works," said Quinn Salman during a press conference at the Kaya Indonesia Gallery, Thamrin, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, October 22.

"Hopefully many will come to FMI and feel the spirit, because each show has a different color and energy," he added.

This festival will also be colored by various cross-disciplinary collaborations, which bring together contemporary dance artists, musical theaters, and traditional music in one creative space. More than just a performance event, FMI is the meeting place for the ideas and enthusiasm of art actors from various regions, presenting diversity and the spirit of togetherness that reflects the face of today's Indonesia.

Billy Gamaliel as Program Manager of Indonesia Kaya, hopes that this initiative can trigger the growth of a professional and sustainable performance ecosystem. "Because we believe, through art and culture, Indonesia can grow into a more empowered nation," he said.
