Nick Cave Receives Honorary Doctorate Degree From Royal College Of Art

JAKARTA - Nicholas Edward Cave alias Nick Cave, once again proves the depth of influence, not only in the music scene, but also in the world of art and design.

The legendary songwriters who are also Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds frontman have just been awarded the title of Honorary Doctor by the Royal College of Art (RCA) with the highest recognition that the institution can give for someone's extraordinary achievements.

The inauguration ceremony of honor was held on Tuesday, September 23, at the Royal Festival Hall, London, to coincide with the graduation moments of thousands of RCA students from various fields, including Design and Communication. The prestigious title was handed over directly by the Chancellor of RCA, Sir Jony Ive, a figure who is widely known for his contribution to Apple's design.

Accepting the respect, Nick Cave delivered an inspiring speech, expressed his gratitude, and highlighted his role in shaping his artistic perspective.

"Through my association with art students, I have learned a lot about the nature of art," said Cave on the podium, quoted by NME, Thursday, September 25.

He continued, the lessons he learned were not just about perseverance and application, but more deeply touching the concept of authenticity.

"I learned that art itself, and in my case, writing songs, has an extraordinary ability to reach into us and express our true nature," he continued.

Cave, who had just celebrated its 67th birthday the day before, closed his speech with a passionate message to the graduates and attendees. He emphasized the important role of today's artists.

"I just want to thank everyone for this great honor, and to congratulate everyone here," said Cave.
