JAKARTA - The contemporary surf-rock band from Jatinangor, The Panturas, tried a new breakthrough on its musical journey. They officially released two songs maxi-single, 'Knights of Lapannam' and 'Soma Gospel'.

Although still carrying a surf rock style wrapped in the aroma of the archipelago and local wealth, the band consisting of Surya Fikri (drums), Bagus Patria (bass), Abyan Zaki (guitar, vocals), Dan Rizal Taufik (guitar) is not just continuing their previous works.

Surya Fikri alias Kuya said that all the materials were completely written from scratch and became a form of new music exploration laboratory for The Panturas.

We really challenge ourselves. Music, lyrics, and this concept is completely new, born from an intense workshop process. In fact, I was quite surprised that the output could be like this," said Kuya in his statement, Monday, July 14.

Meanwhile, the spiritual experience and collective chaos experienced by personnel in recent years has become the main inspiration for writing the two songs.

These songs are inspired by a lot of things that have happened around us lately. This is like a reminder of the end. About the apocalypse, my friends. Remember about the apocalypse," added Abyan Zaki alias Acin.

In terms of musical terms, the Knights of Jalangnam and Soma Gospel continued the experimental spirit that had been felt since Galura Tropicalika, but brought to a deeper level. Meanwhile, the composition of the songs still flows organically not made for exotic impressions that are sold on a surface.

"We don't really want the music to be made too exotic or like a 'cultural sale'. The Sundanese element here is more of an artistic element. As a texture, not a gimmick," said Acin.

The novelty was also presented in the use of English for lyrics, a touch of reggae 1970s in the middle of Sundanese nuances, to a more progressive composition but can still be enjoyed by Garage music lovers and surf rock.

"Actually, I'm really happy with the competitive but catchy bass line, so naturally the reference goes to 70s reggae," said Bagus Patria alias Gogon.

In the production process, The Panturas was assisted by Ricky Surya Virgana as producer, who this time took a more thorough role, starting from writing intro, compiling song foundations, to establishing the dynamics of the arrangement. The Panturas describes the process of working with the producer such as the tutor who is trained to play each part with precision. However, after that, all members were given room to explore according to their respective instincts,
