JAKARTA - The Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi revealed that Perry Warjiyo's resignation from the position of Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) was based on personal reasons. The government has received a resignation letter delivered directly to President Prabowo Subianto.
Prasetyo said the letter sent by Perry did not explain in detail the reason for his resignation. In the letter, Perry only submitted a request to resign for personal reasons.
"He submitted his resignation by sending a letter," Prasetyo told reporters, Monday, July 27.
When asked whether the personal reasons referred to were related to health conditions or other things, Prasetyo emphasized that the letter did not contain further explanations.
"Because of personal reasons and of course we respect it. In his letter he only stated that he was applying for resignation for personal reasons," he said.
Prasetyo added that the government respected Perry Warjiyo's decision to end his term as Governor of Bank Indonesia.
With the acceptance of the resignation, the leadership of Bank Indonesia is temporarily run by the Acting Governor. Previously, the Board of Governors meeting on Sunday, July 26, appointed Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti as Acting Governor of Bank Indonesia.
However, Prasetyo said President Prabowo would not immediately appoint the definitive BI governor. According to him, the government will still discuss the mechanism for filling the post with the President.
"For the interim official, the Governor of BI who is carrying out his duties, we will find time, maybe if possible today to meet or discuss with the President," he said.
He emphasized that the process of appointing the definitive governor takes time and is not done in a hurry.
"Later, it's just yesterday. So the President hasn't been in a day and then immediately wants to appoint a definitive candidate," said Prasetyo.
According to him, the Bank Indonesia Law has regulated the mechanism if there is a vacancy in the position of BI Governor. Therefore, the wheel of leadership of the central bank continues through the interim official until the definitive governor is determined.
"And it so happens that the BI Law stipulates that the vacancy of the post can be immediately automatically carried out by the acting governor," concluded Prasetyo.
