JAKARTA - Sigit Purnomo, better known as Pasha Ungu, suggested that the authorities explain the Copyright Law and its derivative regulations.
As is known, different views on copyright seem to make songwriters with performers in two opposing camps.
Through a statement uploaded on Instagram, the singer who is now a member of the House of Representatives (DPR) asked for a discussion by the authorities by inviting songwriters and performers.
"Allowments to those who have the authority to explain the regulation can invite all industry players, especially vocal/band singers/groups and songwriters, to sit together through sarasehan or group discussion forums, then provide a complete explanation so that it can be understood by all parties," wrote Pasha, citing the upload statement, Tuesday, June 10.
"After that, make an agreement or understanding with the 'implementation of the deadline, for example starting July 1, 2025, every vocal / band singer who performs other people's songs must ask permission' to songwriters to perform their songs, either through personal / management or EO as the organizer of the event / inviteer. And if this is not done, there will be legal consequences, both criminal and civil," he continued.
The suggestion was conveyed because Pasha believed that the chaos that occurred was due to a lack of socialization related to copyright regulations.

"Because I am sure that this confusion is due to a lack of socialization related to laws regulations or regulations that regulate where singers/groupvocals/bands are required to ask songwriters for permission," said the Ungu vocalist.
"If from the beginning the singers/groupvocal/bands who performed songs created by others would have complexities like this, surely the singer would never perform songs created by others," added Pasha.
He continued, What will happen is that songwriters who cannot sing are not necessarily performed by the right singers until the song hits, nor will the singer be able to become a hit singer without performing the right songs.
