Measuring The Potential Of Young Indonesian Musicians To Compete At The International Level

JAKARTA - The term go international may no longer be relevant to the current condition of the music industry, given that all musicians can display their work on many digital platforms accessed by many people from various countries.

However, that does not mean that every Indonesian musician, both singer and music group, can be said to have succeeded in entering the global music industry.

But on the other hand, Indonesia and its young musicians have enormous potential to compete and conquer the global music market.

Barry Maheswara as A&R Director of Warner Music Indonesia said Indonesia has great potential, considering that music is a cultural product.

"When we talk about potential, Indonesia is a very large and wide country, with various backgrounds. And if we talk about music, it's a cultural acculturation product. Instead, we ourselves see young Indonesian musicians and recently in talent, references, and the sounds are on points where we believe we can compete at the international level," said Barry when met at the Warner Music Indonesia office in Sudirman, Central Jakarta recently.

Indonesian musicians based in the United States such as Rich Brian and NIKI are certainly at the forefront when talking about the potential of young Indonesian musicians.

And it is proven that some of our local talents shine internationally. There are Rich Brian, NIKI, and others," said Barry.

But it didn't stop there, Barry also gave notes to young musicians who had careers in Indonesia and still had the opportunity to show off their skills on a large international stage.

Even for Warner himself, we have Jinan Laetitia who has been opening Coldplay in Singapore for a whole week. And for the concert in Indonesia, Rahmania Astrini is asked to be opening act," he said.

"It shows that we are also seen by great international musicians. They also see the potential we have. So, it's just a matter of how we can help these young talents to make their vision come true," said Barry.
