JAKARTA - Alternative rock music units, Iconic Tourists again showed their existence in the Indonesian music scene by releasing two singles at once. The double singles are entitled "Give it to Me" and "Oh Honey".
Both are part of the launch of their debut album, "If There Were A Band At The Opera" which is scheduled to launch in early February 2025.
Jova Rangkuti (vocal/guitar) and Reno Rendragraha (drums) who became the unit's motorbike explained that the two songs were a continuation of the Iconic Tourist music project which had been plotted since 2020.
"The establishment of the Iconic Tourist began when Reno and I had a discourse to create a band unit with the concept of combining each other's musical inspiration and tastes," said Jova in a press release received by VOI, January 28.
Jova started the journey of Iconic Tourist with their first song titled "No One is Going to Know the Difference" in 2020 which relies on catchy guitar and rich ambient background. This song is installed into a kind of common thread or the first color that will describe the band's genre/mood.
That same year, Iconic Tourist then released the song "Too Tired" which has a different color, but doesn't get rid of the 'dark' feel like their first song.
From Cibubur, Jova and Reno continue to strive to maintain the existence of Iconic Tourists by introducing their two initial songs. Often changing personnel, both of them then worked on the song "Oh Honey" which became a breakthrough and a new spirit to continue producing their albums with only 2 people formations.
Only in 2023, Jova Rangkuti and Reno Rendragraha agreed to propose Ananda Viguno to fill the guitar department and Tyo Priohutomo in the bass instrument. With this new formation, Iconic Tourist seemed to get a new passion to complete their album material.
Single "Give it to Me" became the first song to be composed with a complete Iconic Tourist formation. Trying to describe the atmosphere of "angry" with a little tempo game, this song was finally decided to be their first single to welcome their debut album.
