3 Indonesian Bands That Appear At The World Music Festival In 2024, Will This Year Be Repeated?

JAKARTA - The year 2024 is colored by proud achievements for the Indonesian music industry, with several Indonesian bands that have succeeded in becoming line-ups for the world music festival for the first time.

Voice of Baceprot (VoB) is certainly the first band to remember when talking about last year's achievements. This trio from Garut became the first Indonesian musician/group to become the Glastonbury Festival line-up.

Marsya (vocals, guitars), Widi (bass), and Siti (drums) appeared with big names, such as Coldplay, SZA, Dua Lipa, Avril Lavigne, to Shania Twain last June. Their performance was also reviewed by several foreign media.

Then turn to Turtles Jr., a punk band from Bandung that has been on underground music scene since the 1990s. They became the first Indonesian band to make it the Hellfest Open Air Festival 2024 line-up in France, one of the most prestigious loud music festivals in the world.

On that occasion, Turtles Jr shared the stage with major world bands, such as Metallica, Foo Fighters, Averaged Sevenfold, Megadeth, Cradle of Filth, and many more.

Then, there is an instrumental rock trio from Jakarta, ALI, which has succeeded in achieving its dream of appearing in the largest rock music festival in Asia, namely the Fuji Rock Festival.

In July, Arswandaru from ALI said, Fuji Rock Festival is one of the group's bucket lists. "The 'Fuji Rock Festival' is on our bucket list. It's said that achievements are for sure, just not the last achievement, not yet, there are still other festivals that may be in other countries that are bigger or more exciting."

Arswandaru also said that his band was still eyeing a major music festival in 2025, but no official announcements had yet been shared until this article was written.

In addition to the three bands above, several bands and singers also managed to appear at international music festivals and toured abroad, such as the Reality Club, The Jansen, Isyana Sarasvati, and many more.

Hopefully in 2025, there will be more stages abroad featuring Indonesian musicians.
