JAKARTA - Two personnel of The Offspring, Dexter Holland (vocals) and Noodles (guitar) expressed their opinion on the existence of artificial intelligence (AI) or artificial intelligence in music.

In a recent interview with France's Oöi FM, Dexter believes that AI will still exist. The vocalist saw the existence of artificial intelligence as similar to what happened to existing technology.

"I think (AI) will still be there. I understand that it's very confusing and scary. And it makes people anxious. And the technology is getting better," Dexter said.

"And I think it's going to end like other types of technology, where people can use it for good or they can use it for crime, and we have to sort it out," he added.

The 58-year-old vocalist was also asked about the possibility that The Offspring would use AI in its performance on stage one day.

"Ooh. Maybe I don't need to be there. I can be at home watching TV, "he replied with a laugh.

Meanwhile, Noodles declared itself open to opportunities for AI usage on stage, but within certain limits.

"Yes, if we do, we'll just use it to change the sound. Give it up, we have different guitar sounds, chorus pedals, things like that, changing the sound of various things. So I think that's just for that," said the guitarist.

Noodles feels the use of AI in terms of guitar sound effects is not a bad thing. However, it is against if the technology is used for further creative processes.

"When kids use it to write papers or bands use it to try writing their own music. First of all, I think it will fail. I don't think you will succeed with that," he said.

Furthermore, Noodles cites another musician, Joe Walsh, who feels there is no need for excessive fear of AI.

"I like what Joe Walsh said from James Gang and The Eagles about it. He said he wasn't worried about AI. (Because) AI can't throw television out of the hotel window. AI can't make love. Until AI can do that, it doesn't matter.
