Remembering The Beginning Of Joining Slank, Ivanka: A Choice That Never Disappoints

JAKARTA - Ivan Kurniawan Arifin, better known as Ivanka, is known as the longest bass for Slank. He was already involved in the production of the album "Sad Again" which was released in 1997.

Ivanka, who at that time had the choice to have another career, finally chose to join Slank, and she never regretted the decision.

"Yes, it is not a disappointing choice, until now," said Ivanka when met in Cilandak, South Jakarta recently.

Recalling what happened in 1996, Ivanka said she had to be faced with the choice to join Slank or accept a job offer in Australia.

"At that time I had a choice, I had the opportunity to work in Australia, but at that time Slank wanted to release an album too," said the 52-year-old bassist.

"Well, I have to choose. It's called life, we have to choose. Finally I chose Slank, because it's part of the responsibility for what I've done with Bimbim," he added.

Meanwhile, Ivanka's introduction to Slank started from his association, which at that time often hung out at Potlot (Slank headquarters).

At that time, the bassist was a student from a private university in Jakarta.

After being with Slank for almost three decades, Ivanka was involved in the work on 19 albums, with her first album in 1997 and the last in 2021.

Some of the Slank hits that Ivanka played included Empty Tonk', 'Recover', Virus, Gara-Gara Kamu, to Ku Tak Bisa.
