JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has reopened limited access to the Enang-Enang Bridge in Bener Meriah Regency, Aceh, after the temporary reinforcement of the bridge structure was completed.
Currently, the bridge can be crossed by two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles with a maximum load of five tons. Meanwhile, trucks and other heavy vehicles are still prohibited from passing in order to maintain the safety of road users.
Minister PU Dody Hanggodo said that the PU Ministry is committed to ensuring that the affected infrastructure can be immediately handled so that community connectivity is maintained by prioritizing safety aspects.
According to Dody, close coordination between the central government and local governments is the key to ensuring that each stage of handling can run effectively and provide the greatest benefit to the community.
Since the end of May 2026, the Ministry of PU through the National Road Implementation Center (BPJN) Aceh has continued to coordinate with the Bener Meriah Regency Government (Pemkab) to accelerate the handling of the Enang-Enang Bridge based on technical considerations in the field.
Based on the results of the evaluation, the condition of the bridge structure, the geometric road and the soil around the location which is still unstable due to landslides requires handling to be carried out gradually.
As a first step, BPJN Aceh has completed the installation of temporary reinforcement or shoring on the bridge structure.
Acting Head of the Aceh National Road Implementation Agency (BPJN) Zulkarnaini said that the completion of the reinforcement work allowed the bridge to be used again in a limited manner.
"Yesterday we deployed the unit to ask the PPK there to make reinforcements under the bridge with the shoring and it has been completed. For two-wheelers, four-wheelers and pedestrians, God willing, they can be passed, but for large-load vehicles such as trucks, they still can't," he said.
During the emergency handling period, BPJN Aceh also continues to coordinate with the Bener Meriah Regency Government, especially the PU, Housing and Residential Area (PKP) Office and the Transportation Office (Dishub) to support traffic engineering and vehicle arrangements that can cross the bridge.
Meanwhile, Jalan Werlah is still optimized as an alternative route to maintain the smoothness of community mobility.
The Bener Meriah Regency Government has also proposed widening the Werlah Road through the Presidential Instruction Road Program (IJD) to increase the capacity of the alternative route.
BPJN Aceh ensures that the Aceh National Road Implementation Working Unit will continue to monitor the condition of the Enang-Enang Bridge and coordinate intensively with the local government and the community during the emergency handling period.
On the other hand, the government is also accelerating the stages of permanent handling so that the construction of a new bridge can be realized immediately.
The physical construction was originally scheduled for 2027, but the planning process will begin earlier in 2026.
"For the permanent bridge in Enang-Enang, we have already programmed it in 2027," he said.
However, with the current conditions, BPJN Aceh needs to see acceleration so that its planning will be carried out earlier to prepare designs and programs.
"Then, in 2027, God willing, we will carry out the physical work," said Zulkarnaini.
