JAKARTA - Fifteen Indonesian musicians and bands gathered in Bali last week to express their commitment to voicing the issue of the climate crisis through musical works. They participated in a workshop entitled "Music and Environment Activism" held by IKLIM (The Indonesian Climate Communications, Arts, and Music Lab).

Meanwhile, the 15 musicians and bands that attended the workshop were Asteriska, Bsar, Daniel Rumbekwan, Bachoxs, Down For Life, Greenhouse Effects, Jangar, Las!, MatterMos, Petra Sihombing, Poker Mustache, Rhosy Snap, The Vondallz, Voice of Baceprot, and Wake Up Iris.

For five days, they participated in interactive sessions with organizations, environmental experts, and musicians who had joined the CLIMATE since the previous year.

I Gede Robi, vocalist of Navicula who participated in the IKLIM, stated that what this movement was doing was to raise awareness of environmental issues that should be taken seriously. He saw that the presence of musicians with his works had an important role in increasing awareness of the issue.

Musicians have the task of creating songs that can form public opinion so that this issue becomes a priority scale for conversation in the community. If more and more discussion, a supportive policy or regulation will be formed," said Robi.

"Our synergy through this music aims to form public opinion, especially regarding the climate crisis," he added.

According to Robi, consistent collective efforts are needed so that more musicians are involved in voicing this issue, thus having a wider impact.

Meanwhile, Vania Marisca from the duo Wake Up Iris expressed her pride in being involved in the CLIMATE and participating in this year's workshop.

"At this workshop, we are explained from various things. As musicians, we see it as an opportunity to process the data creatively so that it is conveyed to the wider audience," said Vania.

Meanwhile, this year's workshop is closed with tree planting activities in the Gianyar area as a form of the musician's responsibility for the carbon emissions produced to attend and during activities in Bali. Furthermore, all musicians involved in the workshop will create music with messages of environmental awareness and climate crisis. The results of this collaboration are planned to be launched at the end of 2024.
