Ari Bias Only Reports Agnez Mo, Event Organizers Become Witnesses

JAKARTA - Payment of music royalties performing rights in the context of live events (concerts), is generally paid by event organizers who act as Users. However, in the case of Ari Bias and Agnez Mo, the singer was reported for not paying royalties.

As is known, Ari Bias reported Agnez Mo to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police on Wednesday, June 19, for allegedly not paying the royalties of the song as it should. Agnez is said to have performed a song written by Ari, Just Gilang, in three events held by HW Event (now HW Group) last year.

Not without reason when Ari Bias reported Agnez, who incidentally served as a performer, and not HW Group. Minola Sebayang as his attorney claimed to have held talks with the event organizers, and found indications of an agreement that Agnez was responsible for the songs sung.

"We have met with the HW Group several times, the Head of Legal HW Group has come to my office twice. From their discussion, there are indications of an HW Group agreement with Agnez Mo, where HW Group said in the agreement that licensing to creators and royalties was the responsibility of Agnez Mo," said Minola Sebayang at the Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Wednesday, June 19.

Therefore, Ari Bias only reported Agnez Mo as a user, and not HW Group as the organizer of the event. However, Ari considered HW Group to be a witness to the report.

"But still, we will include HW Group as a witness in this report case, so he is also summoned to clarify whether what was conveyed to us was true or not," said Minola.

"If it is (true) as he told us, then it is clear that the only person responsible in this case is Agnez Mo," he concluded.
