Farrell Hilal And An Image Of South Jakarta's Atmosphere On His Single Debut

JAKARTA - Living, working, hanging out, and working in Jakarta is an inspiration for Farrell Hilal. Under the auspices of the label Sony Music Entertainment Indonesia, he released his debut single, In South Jakarta.

Not only acting as a composer, this man who was born in Jakarta, November 27, 2000, also went directly as a producer. He shared stories about the creative process of his songs sourced from observations.

I like to ride with my partner, so from there, inspiration for this song appears. I want to catch the habit of Jakartans who like to ride vehicles around the city, be it private or public vehicles. Why is South Jakarta? Because all my clothes are here and I want to show that living in South Jakarta is fun and varied. Here, we can fall in love, go around at dusk, or visit iconic places even though they are sometimes accompanied by air pollution or eye pollution," he explained.

This song seems to have been composed by Farrell since 2022. Starting from writing songs to making demos (including take vocals) it only took two days. After being selected as the single debut for 2024, this RnB and Soul music genre enthusiast took a revocal with the Sony Music team.

"During the re-recording with SMEI, I not only sang the finished song, but also modified a few notations and tones as well as added instruments with the aim of giving the impression of climax in this song," explained Farrell.

Farrell admits that South Jakarta provides a challenge for her to sing because of the change in genres outside her comfort zone. I feel this song is very thick with pop music, quite out of my habits lately, who sing RnB and Soul more often. With different treatment, the challenge is how to make this song comfortable for me to sing and to hear.

However, fans of the late Glenn Fredly, Matthew Sayersz, and Teddy Adhitya are grateful that he received help from the Sony Music team in working on his debut single.

"I'm happy because I always get full support in working on singles in South Jakarta so whatever difficulties I face can be resolved," he added.

With the release of 'In South Jakarta', Farrell Hilal wants people who listen to it to feel connected to the song.

In addition, I want to invite those who live, work, or like to go to South Jakarta to accept whatever the situation is. This city may not be perfect, but it will still feel like a comfortable home and welcome anyone who comes with open arms. Hopefully this song can provide an illustration for people outside Jakarta that this is what South Jakarta is like," he concluded.
