Paranoids From Black Sabbath Reach 1 Billion Stream On Spotify

Paranoid, hits from Black Sabbath have reached one billion streams on Spotify's digital streaming platform (DSP) recently. That way, the band from Birmingham, England joined the Billions Club.

Meanwhile, the Billions Club is a playlist that will be present in 2020, which includes all the songs that have surpassed a billion streams on the platform.

With this achievement, Spotify also awarded the Billions Club plaque to Black Sabbath.

In the playlist, Paranoid joins other rock songs, including Nothing Else Matter (Metallica), Dream On (Aerosmith), Eye Of The Tiger (Survivor), Dancing Queen (ABBA), Last Resort (Papa Roach), Paradise City (Guns NRoses), and Bring Me To Life (Evanescence).

While attending the Loose Ends program on BBC Radio on November 4, 2023, Tony Iommi (guitar) admitted that he clearly remembers how Paranoid was written.

"I can remember for sure. We were in the studio working on Paranoid albums, and the producer said 'We need another song. We don't have enough songs on this album. Can you make one more song?'," Tony Iommi said.

And I said, 'Well, I don't know. I've never written a three-minute song before.' Sabbath always (writing a song that) lasted five minutes or six minutes. So I got this idea and waited until the others returned from the pub," he continued.

Three years ago, Iommi also mentioned that Paranoid was their first song that lasted quite briefly.

"Paranoids are made as fillers. We have never performed songs three minutes earlier and really amazing what he did," said Iommi.

Paranoid is also considered one of the greatest heavy metal songs of all time, the song is ranked fourth on the UK singles charts and number 61 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

"The only thing we do with Paranoid is attract a different audience than usual," said Tony Iommi.

We saw a lot of girls screaming and other things, which we weren't used to doing at the show. And we performed on (English TV show), Top Of The Pops," concluded the leader of Black Sabbath.
