JAKARTA - Sky Arts Television revealed a favorite guitar riff in England in a new three-part documentary series titled Greatest Guitar Riffs, which aired November 24.

A poll of 2000 music fans was conducted to find out King Charles' favorite riffs, and those included in the top 40 were Seventeen Going Under by Sam Fender, Do I Wanna Know from Arctic Moneys, and Happy by Pharrell William.

However, the top choice is Sweet Child O' Mine from Guns N' Roses. The song, released in JUni 1988, quickly topped the Billboard Hot 100 US charts and became the only single Number One AS belonging to the rock band.

The song is ranked 88th on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time in 2021, and is clearly still a favorite of the British public.

Meanwhile, Prince's Purple Rain is in the runner-up position, and the Sultan's Of Swing of the British rock band, Dire Straits, is in third place.

Sky Arts director Phil Edgar-Jones spoke about the series by saying: "Whether it's the great late Jimi Hendrix, supporters like Iron Maiden and Led Zeppelin, or new artists who appear, rock n'roll will never die."

There are new talents that keep popping up. Tastes for new songs and sweet riffs remain big," he continued, quoted from NME, Tuesday.

However, classic songs still won, with a poll finding that Queen's Brian May was chosen as the greatest guitarist of all time, beating Hendrix and Eric Badminton.

According to 30 percent of participants, guitar riffs 'golden age' occurred in the 1970s, while 21 percent believed the 1980s were a better time.

The series features guitar legend Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, Andy Summers of The Police, and Nancy Wilson of Heart. Joining them are Bon Jovi, The Killers and many other legendary bands, to find out the impact of guitar riffs on music history.
