JAKARTA - In the "Metalmania III" Rock 'N' Roll Fantasy Camp question session this month in Los Angeles, drummer Mike Portnoy was asked about his return to Dream Theater.

"Yes, it's been 13 years. And it's crazy how time has passed. But in recent years, I think during the pandemic, yes, I reconnected with John Petrucci's [Gitarist Dream Theater]," Portnoy opened.

"When we were locked down and all my bands couldn't go on tours, and Dream Theater couldn't go on tour, John Petrucci made a solo album, and he asked me to play in it. And then from there we decided to make another LTE [Liquid Tension Experiment] album, namely with [keyboardist Dream Theater] Jordan Rudess," he continued.

"And not long after that, John asked me to take a tour with him. So it looks like we've been reconnected over the past few years."

Portnoy menjelaskan, dia dan Petrucci memiliki sejarah yang sangat panjang, hampir 40 tahun bersama di mana keluarga mereka tumbuh bersama.

"Our wives played in a band together, and our children grew up together. So, to be honest, it just felt like that. It was the right thing at the right time," he explained.

"Our children literally grew up together, in the top beds opposite each other on the bus. My daughter and daughter John have lived together in New York for the last four or five years."

"So, yes, there is so much family history outside of music that it feels like it's the right time to do it."
