Gilby Clarke Calls Riff The Best Enter Sandman Song Of All Time

JAKARTA - In an interview with Radioactive MikeZ, program host 96.7 KCAL-FM program "Wired In The Empire", former Guns N 'Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke recalled the tour of the legendary rock band stadium with Metallica in 1992.

"Look, we had a lot of fun times. Lars [Ulrich, Metallica drummer] gathered with us every day during that tour; he was really like one of us," Gilby opened his story.

"Every day we go out together, we party after the concert. Before the concert, [we] went and did You know, whether it went to the museum during the day, he was really part of us. We got along," he continued.

"When [thetur] first started, I watched a lot of concerts [Metallica] because they always appeared first, and then we didn't continue for a long time. So after a while, I was like not that I stopped watching them, but it would be a long day for us to keep watching them."

"So, I started to rarely watch them. I saw Metallica at the start, and then I haven't seen it until they exploded. So I really admire their professionalism, and I really like the way they've always been the core unit. They have dinner together, like they did something [together]. I really, really enjoy part of them."

"And in terms of sound, I mean, they are very big. They are still big. Their sound is booming and very loud and very Metallica."

Asked to mention his favorite Metallica song, Gilby said.

"That's a standard thing, but Enter Sandman is still my favorite song. I mean, look, I'm actually not a metal person I grew up listening to The Clash music and things like that but I always love that song because it has more melodies and so on, and that riff is the greatest riff of all time. "

Gilby replaced Izzy Stradlin in the Guns N 'Roses line-up in 1991, during the "Use Your Illusion" tour, and lasted with the band for three years. After leaving Guns N 'Roses, Gilby continued his career as a producer and solo artist, as well as playing at Slash's Snakepit, Rock Star Supernova, Heart, and other artists.
