JAKARTA – Sisitipsi released their third album titled Kenangan Bang Maing on February 14. This album is a tribute from Sisitipsi to the late Ismail Marzuki.

The band, which started their career at the Jakarta Art Institute campus, conveyed a deep sense of closeness to the figure of Ismail Marzuki during college.

“Our 3rd album has been born. It is an honor for us, where we are trusted to work on a tribute album for the maestro, national hero, and the father of Indonesian popular music, Ismail Marzuki, who is familiarly called 'Bang Maing'," they said via their Instagram account.

“It's like a dream, where we grew up in Taman Ismail Marzuki dozens of years ago which is the hometown of the late Ismail Mazruki, the original legend of Kwitang-Cikikini. During our 'have fun' moments there, we always felt close to the deceased, even though we never met or greeted him. We only read history and local people's stories about him. Hopefully with this album, not only we will feel familiar with Bang Maing, but all of us, especially young people. Let us all convey a simple message, 'Appreciate the predecessors of the successor exploration,'" they concluded.

Kenangan Bang Maing contains eight songs by the legend which were remade by Sisitipsi. Among them are Aryati, Juwita Malam, Kopral Jono, Rayuan Pulau Kelapa, Rindu Lukisan, Sabda Alam, Selendang Sutra, and Sepasang Mata Bola.

Apart from that, Sisitipsi has also released the music video of Aryati which can be watched on YouTube.

This is a proper form of respect. At the same time, the Kenangan Bang Maing album also has another function to reintroduce Ismail Marzuki's works to the younger generation.
