JAKARTA - Singer Thomas Djorghi released a new single titled Marlina, a repackaged version of a song by Guruh Sukarno Putra who was popular in the 1980s and became the soundtrack for the film Puspa Indah Taman Hati.

Thomas Djorghi collaborated with the label Musica Studio and collaborated with millennial musicians Febrian Nindyo and Ezra Mandira from the group HIVI! for this single.

"Seperti yang menjadi misi saya saat awal kembali aktif di dunia musik, berusaha membuat musik dangdut bisa diterima oleh anak millennial di kalangan urban," ujar Thomas Djorghi dikutip dari Antara, Selasa.

Thomas Djorghi involved musicians outside the dangdut genre to work on his music so he could get a fresher feel.

"I am very grateful that Febri and Ezra are willing to support me in working on Marlina's music," said Thomas Djorghi.

Meanwhile, both Febrian and Ezra said this was the first experience working on dangdut music. According to them, there is a kind of burden because the song was created by a maestro in the world of Indonesian music.

"As soon as we got this challenging offer, we had a long discussion and a workshop with Mas Thomas, finally we carried out the production process while trying not to lose Mas Thomas' real identity," they said.

"Marlina" is also presented in the music video version, telling about Thomas' original daily life which is described as an independent, humble, creative and inspiring figure.

He called "ah hijab rasa oppa" referring to the term in the trending Korean drama, namely when he met a woman who looked like his former lover first, and made him fall in love again.

"The whole picture of this 'ahmen taste oppa' man is Mas Thomas' original image on a daily basis. A mature man who still has energy and charm like a charming young man," said director Arie Patih.

Ariea feels the need to raise this in order to inspire people who live in big cities, as single and independent men.

"In the midst of busy life, we can still take care of house matters such as cleaning and others but still be able to work and hang out simply in the community," said Arie.

A number of celebrities were involved in Marlina's music videos including Bebi Romeo, Meisya Siregar, Sultan Djorghi, Anissa Trihapsari, Aqueen Djorghi, Indra Brasco, Mona Ratuliu, Irgi Fahrezi, Fenny Fahrezi, Jordan Djorghi, Louis

Thomas also involved Guruh Sukarno Putra as a songwriter. Apart from Guruh, there is also a figure who plays Marlina in the film "Puspa Inda Taman Hati", namely Yessy Goesman. The 2023 version of the Marlina character is played by the Dypa model, Jessy Lakhwani.

Single Marlina has been released on February 3, 2023 and can be listened to on all digital music platforms. Meanwhile, the music video can be watched on Thomas Djorghi's YouTube page.
