JAKARTA KTM officially submitted a recall report to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Agency (NHTSA), following the discovery of defects in the fuel tank cover feed used in a number of their motorcycle models.
The document explains that several KTM and Husqvarna models for the 2024 production year have the potential to be affected because they use tank cover components from suppliers which are later known to have problematic gaskets.
Citing Rideapart, Tuesday, November 18, about 5,488 units of various models are expected to be included in the recall list. That number represents approximately one percent of the total vehicle population.
The affected units are motorcycles produced from late 2023 to early 2024, including KTM Duke 250, Duke 390, Duke 990, and Husqvarna Vitpilen 401. In these units, the seal on the fueling cap can experience fine cracks so as not to close tightly and risk causing fuel leaks which of course can trigger potential fires, injuries, and accidents.

The chronology submitted by KTM states that component suppliers, Minda, have actually found indications of a rift since March 2023 while conducting standard testing. However, because the problem could not be replicated and did not appear in the production unit, they only recorded the findings without further follow-up.
Only in September 2024, KTM found a similar case in one of their R&D motors. These findings led KTM to ask Minda to do additional testing to ascertain the root of the problem.
Because KTM markets its products in many countries, the process of reporting and recalling can occur at different times in each region. Until now, KTM emphasized that there have been no reports of accidents or injuries related to these defects.
As a further step, KTM will begin to notify the owners of the affected units on December 15, 2025.
