There Is No Plan To Sell Electric Motorcycles In Indonesia Yet, This Is What Yamaha Said

JAKARTA - Electric motorbikes in Indonesia are increasingly diverse, but PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM) has no plan to sell electric motorcycles in the country.

In fact, the research conducted, namely the Proof of Concept (PoC) has been completed. In fact, it has reached the target as revealed by Assistant General Manager of Marketing Public Relations of PT YIMM Antonius Widiantoro.

"Indeed, PoC has arrived at the target and we have used the results for development. The motorbike is still here (Indonesia), we are also testing but internally. The public has stopped because the target is achieved," he said, when met in Jakarta, Wednesday, June 12.

Furthermore, he said, currently Yamaha has no plans to sell and is still in the trial stage, and maybe this is part of the introductory process.

"But the end is not for sale, because we are more focused on evaluation. We also don't want to sell it, it doesn't match the wishes of the community," he added.

When asked about the electric motorcycle market not too big, he said that actually consumers need to be educated even deeper. Not without reason, because changing the pattern of ordinary people to ride from ICE to electric takes time, as well as getting into injection.

"I think this is a process, towards it has been carried out, there is a long term vision towards electrification until 2050. This is one of the procedures that we are doing, but when to sell in Indonesia there is currently no plan," he explained.

As is known, Yamaha has been conducting PoC research since the end of 2022 with the initial plan being carried out for one year, but extended. The data obtained from the results of the E01 electric motorcycle testing and the survey will be used for the development of electric motors marketed.
