JAKARTA - In order to improve the safety of road users, BMW Motorrad intends to embed the Forward Collision Warning (FCW) feature in the latest R 1300 GS model.

This feature has previously existed in various new car models. BMW Motorrad is trying its latest innovation by embedding FCW on a motorcycle. This feature is useful to prevent hitting the object in front of it when it is not focused.

Reporting from Motorcyclenews, Thursday, August 3, this feature will use the radar system at the front, the same as the Active Cruise Control (ACC) feature in R 1250 RT.

This FCW system can work when the motorbike gives a warning to the driver and will also reduce the speed of the vehicle slightly. The FCW feature can be active as long as the ABS is turned on and the motor is at a speed of 30 km/h to 160 km/hour.

This radar system can read the road in front of it by monitoring the distance of the motorbike with the object in front of it. If the motorbike is advanced very quickly, then the radar can provide a symbol of warning to the instrument cluster as the first step to avoid accidents.

Using ABS, this system can provide small surprises. This is what makes motorists more vigilant by paying attention and concentrating on seeing the streets in front of them. If the driver does not heed it, the system will give a sterner warning.

Although it won't make motorcycles stop, it will reduce speed by itself. The system will let motorists make decisions to brake or avoid.

The system is sophisticated in being able to read the level of concentration of motorists. If the driver does not focus on facing forward, then this feature will give a stern warning.

However, the FCW system can be deactivated if the driver is disturbed. FCW is useful for making motorists more concentrated and this feature is not on other motorbikes.

In addition to FCW, R 1300 GS will be embedded with the ACC feature as well as several other safety features such as Blind Spot Detection to monitor blind spots on motorcycles.

BMW R 1300 GS has a runway with a capacity of 1,300 cc boxer 2-cylinder engine and will have a higher power than the previous version. BMW Motorrad will release the big bike on 28 September.
