GWM Confirms It Will Bring PHEV Cars to Indonesia, Tank 700?

JAKARTA - Great Wall Motor (GWM) has marked its debut in the Indonesian automotive market by introducing three Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) lines, consisting of Tank 500, Tank 300, Haval H6, and Haval Jolion.

The four products have proven to have many enthusiasts in the country.

According to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), GWM, represented by the sub-brands Tank and Haval, managed to record sales of a total of 630 units in the period from January to October 2024.

Seeing the good demand for electrified vehicles, the Chinese manufacturer also intends to launch a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) in Indonesia. The car is known to be able to run like a pure EV.

This was confirmed by the Sales & Network Director of GWM Indonesia, Lisa Wijaya, who said that her party was considering bringing the PHEV line to the country.

"For PHEV, we are sure that there is a plan to present it to Indonesia," said Lisa when met by reporters in Kebayoran Baru, Friday, November 29.

She also ensured that the latest PHEV model presented by her party is in the SUV segment while expanding the range of utility vehicles for the Indonesian market.

"That's right, because the GWM brand is stronger in the SUV segment. Moreover, if you look at our product line, the segment is in the premium SUV," added Lisa.

Unfortunately, Lisa did not reveal the certainty of the presence of the PHEV product line. However, it is hoped that GWM can be launched in Indonesia as early as next year.

"Just wait, we will definitely present the PHEV line in Indonesia," said Lisa.

The manufacturer headquartered in Hebei, China has a number of PHEV models in the foreign market, one of which is the Tank 700.

This car is positioned as a full-size SUV that will compete with other large-sized cars, such as the BYD Yangwang U8, Toyota Land Cruiser, and Nissan Patrol.

For the bamboo curtain country market, GWM offers it in the 3.0T V6 Hi4-T PHEV powertrain which is famous for its fuel efficiency.

Thus, this allows it to have a performance with a total output of up to 422 hp and 517 Nm of torque. The manufacturer provides it with a 37.1 kWh battery that is capable of providing a range of up to 100 km running on pure electric power.
