JAKARTA After successfully releasing Swift, the latest generation at the end of 2023 with significant updates and mid-hybrid technology, Suzuki is now preparing a more powerful and sporty variant.

According to a report from Japanese media Best Car, Wednesday, October 2, the launch of Swift Sport will be faster than expected. If previously rumored to be present early next year, Suzuki is now targeting launches in December 2024.

Although the full specifications are still kept secret, Swift Sport is predicted to have a slightly different dimension than the fourth generation. This latest model will have a length of 3,990 mm, a width of 1,750 mm, a height of 1,500 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,450 mm, which promises a more aerodynamic and aggressive proportion.

Interestingly, the latest Swift Sport will carry a 1.4 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 48V mid-hybrid technology. This combination is claimed to be capable of generating up to 150 PS of power and a maximum torque of 240 Nm, with an additional power of 15 PS and 59 Nm of electric motors. Suzuki is also likely to offer two transmission options: manual and automatic six accelerations.

Despite relying on front wheels (FWD) drivers, Suzuki promises a better and more fun driving experience than the previous version.

In terms of price, Swift Sport is expected to be priced at around 2.3 million yen in Japan or around Rp244.8 million, making it one of the sports hatchbacks at a fairly affordable price.

However, amid Suzuki's seriousness in in introducing Swift Sport, they have stopped selling this model in the UK to comply with the Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) policy, which forces automotive manufacturers to prioritize sales of electric vehicles in the future. Suzuki also mentioned that the previous generation of Swift Sport will soon run out in the UK market once the last stock of dealers is sold.
