Lucid Motors Ready To Launch Affordable Electric Crossover, Challenges Tesla Model Y

JAKARTA Lucid Motors has just leaked about its newest electric vehicle (EV) which is ready to be produced by 2026. This model is designed to compete in the mid-sized segment with a wider market target and more affordable prices.

The new car will be priced under 50 thousand US dollars (around Rp. 770 million) and is expected to be an attractive alternative for fans of this segment's electric cars dominated by big players like Tesla.

Although not yet officially named, the model that is likely to be labeled Lucid Earth as reported by Autoweek, September 12 is Lucid's second midsize model after the Gravity SUV, which is planned to start production later this year. Lucid hopes Earth will complete the choice of the Water series, which attracts buyers in deep pockets.

At this price, Lucid targets the market that has been controlled by the Tesla Model Y. This segment is full of competition, but Lucid is confident that it can deliver new innovations through efficient and cost-effective battery technology.

"This new Crossover will combine high efficiency and Lucid technology advantages to provide optimal reach with smaller batteries," Lucid said in a post on X.

Lucid Motors has also received a large injection of funding from major investors this year, which strengthens its position to face intense competition in the electric vehicle segment.

While it is likely not to offer a super long range like Lucid Air's luxury sedan, this crossover is projected to be able to cover a distance of about 480 km, competitive enough to compete in 2026.

The new model is said to be built on a midsize platform that offers a capacity of five passengers with two rows of seats, in contrast to a larger Gravity SUV with seven seats. From a leaked design, it appears that the rear of this crossover has no room as much as a larger SUV, indicating a focus on optimal space efficiency.
