Facelift Version Of MG5 Sedan Released In China, Far Design Changed

JAKARTA - The current generation of MG5 sedans has entered its fifth year since its release in 2020. Now, Morris Garage (MG) presents it in a facelift version for the Chinese market.

Launching from Carscoops, Thursday, August 15, it looks like its appearance has changed significantly, especially the front with a more proportional goal inspired by other sedans, MG7.

This British manufacturer changed the bumper's intake and made the headlights look more aggressive. Then, the back lights are designed to be longer elongated with a bumper showing fake intakes and diffusers of the color of the body.

Not only has its style revised, but this sedan dimension has also increased compared to its predecessor. It extends to 4,715 mm and wheelbase reaches 2,680 mm.

The interior also experienced a number of revisions, ranging from the layout to a neater, new digital cockpit with a dual screen of 12.3 inches, and minimal use of physical buttons on the center and dashboard parts.

For performance, MG maintains a 1.5 liter 4-cylinder engine like its predecessor. In the naturally-assired standard version, MG5 facelift gets 127 dk of power combined with a five-acceleration transmission or Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT).

The brand, which is now owned by SAIC Motor, also offers a more powerful turbocharged type of 179 dk and a 285 Nm torque driven front wheels with a dual-clutch seven acceleration transmission.

MG5 facelift will make its debut on August 30 through the Chengdu Auto Show in China. It is estimated that this model will be present in a number of Southeast Asian markets, such as Thailand and the Philippines. Then, this continues to the Australian, Mexican, and Middle Eastern markets.

The manufacturer also did not disclose information about its safety system after the pre-facelift version received a star zero in testing the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (ASEAN NCAP) some time ago.
