MG Launches The Latest Generation Of HS, Interior Is More Relieved And Moves PHEV

JAKARTA - British automotive manufacturer Morris Garage (MG) officially launched the latest generation HS in the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The SUV uses a base from Roewe RX5 which is available in the ICE and Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) variants.

UK's Head of Product and Planning MG Motor David totals that this model improves practicality standards better by providing a wide range of drive options.

"This car has a distinctive look at MG so it distinguishes HS from other SUVs, as well as a sophisticated choice of gasoline and PHEV engines," said Right on the brand's official website, Friday, July 12.

Compared to the previous generation, MG HS has a width of 1,890 mm or 14 mm wider, a length of 4,655 mm or 45 mm longer, and a wheelbase of 2,765 mm or extended to 45 mm. The new profile looks slimmer, reducing 30 mm from its height.

This second-generation MG HS comes with a striking front goal as well as continuing the design language of the manufacturer, such as the latest MG3 model. Then, the front light looks slimmer with a more sophisticated theme.

The back has a design aligned with the front. LED lights are connected with central motifs, then there is a X pattern so as to introduce the characteristics of recognizable lights at night.

For the interior, the latest HS is equipped with two 12.3-inch High-Definition (HD) screens with infotainment featuring live navigation services including weather, traffic updates, Amazon Music, and can be connected to Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

Meanwhile, the second screen has the same size as presenting two themes, light and dark, as well as three different views, namely Map, Digital, and ADAS. Each offers its own unique layout, with a focus on rolling navigation display, a simple summary of the most important driving information, or real-time visualization of vehicles and their surroundings, supported by the driver assistance system.

Overall, the interior comes with premium quality materials with the latest triple-barreled steering steering wheel and upgraded switchgear and shuttle-style dentists.

Then, the baggage capacity was also increased by 44 liters to 507 liters. The increase in storage options in the cabin ensures that there is a lot of room for daily equipment.

All variants offer MG Pilot packages consisting of Active Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Bicycle Detection, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning System, Blind Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist, Driver Attention Alert, Forward Collision Warning, and others.

For the gasoline machine version, the latest MG HS is equipped with a 1.5 liter engine that produces up to 125 kW of power and 275 Nm of torque. Thus, it is capable of running from 0 to 100 km/hour in 9.4 seconds with a transmission of six manual accelerations as standard and seven DCT accelerations for optional.

Nevertheless, the PHEV variant offers greater power with a 1.5 liter 105 kW gasoline engine combined with an electric motor measuring 154 kW, resulting in a combined power of 259 kW capable of running from 0 to 100 km/hour in 6.8 seconds.

Carrying the PHEV system, the latest MG HS is also equipped with a battery with a capacity of 24.7 kWh so that it has the ability to drive with pure electric power up to 75 miles or 120 km in one charge.

The latest MG HS is priced starting at 24,995 pounds (Rp520 million) for the trim SE or pure gasoline and the PHEV Trophy worth 33,995 pounds (Rp707.3 million). The first shipment for the gasoline variant will take place at the end of July, followed by PHEV type at the end of September.
