Skoda's Latest Compact SUV To Make In India, Production Starting January 2025

JAKARTA - Czech Skolda manufacturers plan to present a compact SUV that will be sold starting next year, and will be made in India for the domestic market and exports.

Quoting from the Indian Autocar page, Monday, February 5, the manufacturer even targets 90 percent of the local raw materials for this compact SUV. This was revealed by Piyush Arora, MD and CEO, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India.

"Localization is one of the great initiatives we are taking for this product and I am sure we will be able to meet market expectations at a price that will come out later," he said.

It is reported that this compact SUV will begin production in January 2025 in India. To reach a higher economic scale, this compact SUV will support the local supplier base for Skoda cars and MQB AO IN-based VWs currently on sale in India.

Regarding its powertrain, Arora said that many Indian engines localized units of turbo gasoline 1.0 TSI and 1.5 TSI will be used in this latest model.

In addition, larger machines with 150 cellphones will be evaluated to be implemented. Arora explained, for demand in a 1.5 liter turbo machine, get a good reception.

"We see a good demand for a 1.5 liter machine (turbo gasoline engine). But for a compact sub-four meter segment, we have to see if this really works or not," he added.

The compact Skoda SUV made in India will become a global model, because apart from taking over group operations in India, Skolda Auto is also taking over further development of the global development of MQB A0. This new SUV will be exported to markets such as Mexico and Africa, even to several Southeast Asian markets such as Vietnam.
