This Land Cruiser From China Unexpectedly Successful In The Market

JAKARTA - One of the luxury SUVs from the Great Wall Motor (GWM) Tank 500 Hi4-T, has recorded success since its launch from the start of the year.

According to a report from Carnewschina, Wednesday, November 1, the SUV has managed to record more than 20,000 pre-sales, with retail sales reaching 9,328 units.

Last month, sales of the model reached 4,269 units, making it the second best-selling model under the Tank sub-brand. Referred to as China's 'Land Cruiser' due to its design resemblance, the SUV offers a sturdy exterior design, allowing it to conquer off-road terrain with capabilities comparable to Toyota's iconic car.

The 500 Hi4-T tank is powered by a 4-cylinder 2.0 liter turbocharged engine that produces up to 300 kW of power and 750 Nm of torque, paired with a hidraulic automatic transmission of nine accelerations (9HAT) and a four-wheel drive system (4WD).

Machine integration with a 150 kW electric motor and a 37.1 kWh battery located at the back of the chassis allows this car to run in pure electric mode with a range of up to 100 km according to the WLTC cycle, with efficient fuel consumption reaching 2.3 liters/100 km.

The 500 Hi4-T tank was first introduced on the 2021 Chengdu Auto Show, but it is known from before it was introduced that many criticized the SUV design for imitating the Toyota Land Cruiser. Variants have been launched, including the Hybrid version debuting the same year. The PHEV variant is available at a price of 335,000 yuan or around IDR 726.8 million.
