SUV Performance Duel: BMW XM Vs. Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-hybrid

JAKARTA - SUV markets are currently enlivened with various high-performance models from well-known manufacturers, including BMW with XM launches developed by division M.

At the end of 2022, BMW XM managed to steal the attention of automotive lovers with an aggressive and high performance look. However, its competitors did not remain silent. Porsche recently introduced the Cayenne Turbo E-hybrid, which is considered the most powerful SUV ever issued by the brand.

Both have aggressive characteristics as SUVs and each is equipped with Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) technology. So, what is the comparison between the two? Here's the comparison, according to VOI monitoring, Friday, September 22.

Exterior Design

BMW XM carries a number of typical touches from the M division, including the M high-gloss Shadowline accent, aerodynamic elements from the M division, iconic BMW front grip, and light 23-inch alloy rims to reduce weight.

Meanwhile, the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid has a look not much different from other variants in the Cayenne lineup, but Porsche is giving it an update to its front facility with a larger air hole. The car is also equipped with a red caliber brake and two aluminum-coated double exhausts to improve the appearance of the E-hybrid. In addition, the new LED HD-Matrix Design headlights provide a modern touch.

Interior

BMW presents a variety of advanced features in the XM cabin, including a BMW Live Cockpit Professional package featuring a frameless curved display, a 12.3-inch multifunctional instrument display, and a 14.9-inch touchscreen. The experience of driving with BMW XM is further enhanced by the presence of Augmented View in the touch screen, BMW gesture control, and wireless charging drawer.

Unfortunately, the Cayenne Turbo E-hybrid does not have a significant difference in its interior appearance when compared to other variants. This car still uses a 12.6-inch free-standing digital instrument, as well as a 12.3-inch PCM mid-screen infotainment system. However, Porsche provides a premium touch with aluminum accents and cabin roofs that use Race-Tex.

Machines And Performance

Both have a PHEV system, which means the performance of the two is combined from gasoline engines and electric motors.

BMW XM relies on a V8 engine in collaboration with an electric motor, producing a peak power of up to 653 dk through the M Hybrid system. The power consists of a 489 dk combustion engine and a 197 dk electric motor. With Plug-In Hybrid technology, XM can switch to pure power and has a range of up to 80 km.

Meanwhile, the Cayenne Turbo E-hybrid uses a 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 599 dk, plus a 176 dk electric motor. With this combination, the Cayenne Turbo E-hybrid produces a larger total power, reaches 739 dk, and has an electric range of up to 82 km.

Price

Both have high prices, considering their position as a performance car from two well-known producers. In Indonesia, BMW XM is sold for around IDR 5.5 billion Off The Road.

Meanwhile, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid is not yet available in Indonesia in the near future. In Europe, this car is priced at around 176,324 euros or around Rp. 2.91 billion, without taking into account other additional options.

Conclusion

The presence of these two SUVs not only enriches the utility segment, but also the high performance car market. Although both are designed with a focus on performance, both have their own characteristics and uniqueness.
