JAKARTA - Car manufacturers are vying to develop autonomous driving features to help drivers. Tesla has introduced the "Autopilot" feature in some of its models and Mercedes-Benz is also developing the "Drive Pilot" feature. This encourages other manufacturers to present similar features in the future.
One of the manufacturers that will soon launch the autonomous driving feature is Bentley. This luxury car manufacturer will provide the feature in their first electric-based model.
However, Bentley fans have to be patient because their first electric car will only be available in 2025. The plan, the car will be sold starting in 2026.
Reporting from the Autocar page on Friday, June 23, Bentley CEO Adrian Hallmark revealed that this car will use Mobileye SuperVision technology. This technology will also be used in the Porsche Macan EV which has the same platform, namely PPE.
The PPE platform is the result of the development of Audi and Porsche using software from Volkswagen Group 1.2. This platform allows the driving system without having to hold the steering wheel.
The Mobileye SuperVision feature itself uses 11 cameras, EyeQ5 Mobileye chips, level three autonomous technology, and high intelligence maps that allow cars to drive without human intervention.
However, due to delays in the development of the VW Group 1.2 software, the launch of the Bentley EV using this system was delayed along with the Porsche Macan EV and Audi Q6 e-tron.
