JAKARTA - KISS band frontman Paul Stanley has supported Kim Kardashian West regarding a series of tweets by Kanye West that brought into question her husband's mental health.

On Monday night, Kanye tweeted about allegations that Kardashian and his mother Kris Jenner had tried to "lock him up". On Tuesday night, he claimed that he was considering divorcing his wife. The tweet has now been deleted.

Kardashian issued a lengthy statement on Instagram defending West, explaining that he has bipolar disorder, a lifelong mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings including emotional highs and lows.

"As you know, Kanye has bipolar disorder," he wrote. "Anyone who has this disease or one of their loved ones has this, knows how complicated and painful it is to understand. I have never spoken publicly about how this has affected us at home because I am very protective of our children. and Kanye's right to protect his privacy when it comes to his health.

"People who are not aware of or distant from this experience can be judgmental and do not understand that the individual himself must be involved in the process of getting help, no matter how hard his family and friends try."

Earlier this Wednesday, Stanley shared Kardashian's comments on Twitter and added the following message: "Let's be compassionate and praise this. So much struggles with mental illness and depression and we can all make a difference."

In a 2018 interview with The New York Times, West said he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2017.

West, who announced July 4 that he was running for president, delivered a lengthy monologue at a campaign event last weekend, touching on topics from abortion to Harriet Tubman.
