Nia Ramadhani Admits To Using Methamphetamine To Get Rid Of Stress, Is It Really Effective?

JAKARTA - Nia Ramadhani and her husband, Ardi Bakrie, have been consuming shabu for several months. Both of them argued that they consumed methamphetamine due to work pressure and stress during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"(Reason) The pressure of work, then also with a lot of work pressure. Those are classic reasons," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus to reporters, Thursday, July 8.

Is it true that meth can relieve stress? Psychiatrist (psychiatrist) Clinic Angsamerah dr. Ratna Mardianti, SpKJ said, methamphetamine is a stimulant that can stimulate people to be active and not get tired easily in activities, but it can cause serious effects on health, both in the short and long term.

"In the beginning it was good, just because he was active, didn't sleep, didn't rest, his health was disturbed. His concentration was disturbed, his appetite also decreased," said Ratna, who is an alumni of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia.

Ratna then explained that if a person consumes methamphetamine for a long period of time, then that person will experience problems in several parts of the organs in the body.

"Imagine that he has not slept and has no appetite for a long time, his blood pressure has increased, his heart is also problematic, his muscles work is problematic, even his brain," said Dr Ratna, quoted from ANTARA.

Ratna continued that there is no guarantee for people who are addicted to taking drugs to recover completely because according to her, people who are addicted to drugs can only be recovered from that bad habit.

"It's hard for him to usually take stimulants and then get used to not using them anymore. So it can only be controlled. If tomorrow he is tired again but still has to be active again, he might be tempted to use it again," said Ratna.

In addition, Ratna said the rehabilitation time for each person will be different depending on the severity and the person's intention to change.

Currently, Nia Ramadhani and Ardi Bakrie are still in the custody of the Central Jakarta Police. They were named suspects and questioned for further investigation.
