JAKARTA - The role of the younger generation is increasingly crucial in facing increasingly complex global challenges, ranging from food, health issues, to economic growth.
In the midst of rapid world changes, cross-country collaboration and innovative thinking are key so that young people are able to contribute as agents of change that have a real impact on the future.
This spirit is reflected in the participation of BINUS SCHOOL Education students in the Asia-Pacific Young Leaders Convention 2026 (APYLC) which was held on 20-24 April 2026.
Entering its 9th year of implementation, this forum brings together students from various countries such as Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, and China to exchange ideas and formulate solutions to various global issues.
The BINUS delegation came from several campuses, including BINUS SCHOOL Simprug, Serpong, Bekasi, and Semarang. They collaborated with students from Kaichi High School, Nan Chiau High School, and Changshu Lunhua Senior High School.
For five days, the participants engaged in cross-cultural discussions and teamwork to design solutions that are applicable to various world problems.
The Head of BINUS SCHOOL Serpong Secondary School, Corey Allison, expressed his appreciation for the active involvement of students.
"We are very proud to see students from across BINUS SCHOOL Education, together with their peers from various countries, actively involved in APYLC 2026. This activity is an important platform for them to develop as future leaders who are able to face global challenges through creative thinking and strong cross-cultural collaboration," he said in a press statement to VOI, Thursday, April 30.
Carrying the theme "Root for Change: Feeding Minds, Healing Communities, Empowering Futures", participants explored solutions that are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in terms of eradicating hunger, health, and inclusive economic growth.
One of the participants, Claudia, admitted that she gained new insights from the activity.
"APYLC 2026 gave me a broader perspective on global challenges. During the event, I met many people with different perspectives and lifestyles, and learned how important cross-cultural communication is in creating solutions that are not only innovative, but also relevant to implement," he said.
Not only focusing on academic discussions, international participants are also invited to get to know Indonesian culture directly. They visited the Jakarta Mangrove Forest and the National Museum of Indonesia, as well as participating in various cultural activities such as batik, playing angklung, and getting to know wayang art.
A participant from Japan, Sumegi, expressed his positive impression.
"APYLC 2026 gave me a new perspective on global issues and inspired me to contribute to better change. I was also very impressed with Indonesian culture, especially batik. I am grateful to finally be able to experience it directly," he said.
This activity was closed with a statement from Cao Lunhua who emphasized the importance of the role of the younger generation in creating sustainable change.
"APYLC is the starting point for young people to begin their journey as agents of change. Through this initiative, they are encouraged to create a sustainable impact for the future of the world," he said.
He also announced that the next APYLC will be held in Japan, with the hope that more young generations will be involved in global collaboration.
Through activities like this, BINUS SCHOOL Education continues to encourage students to think critically, collaborate across cultures, and take an active role in answering the challenges of an ever-evolving world.
