Chelsea Islan Invites Young Generation To Take Real Actions To Protect Earth's Ecosystem

JAKARTA - Commemorating World Environment Day, outstanding artist Chelsea Islan as UNDP Indonesia's SDG Mover, again invites the younger generation to take real action to protect the environment.

"Today, excessive human activity has become a threat to the sustainability of biodiversity," Chelsea said in a video message delivered to coincide with the commemoration of World Environment Day, which falls on Friday, 6 June 2021.

Indonesia, as an archipelago, has been known for its rich biodiversity. Indonesia has the third largest area of tropical forest in the world and has the richest diversity of coral reef fish species. Today, their existence is threatened due to human over-consumption and exploitation.

"Our real actions are important in maintaining and restoring the balance of the ecosystem. This can be achieved through joint collective efforts, for example by adopting a lifestyle that saves energy and resources. Other activities such as planting trees, stopping the use of plastic bags, reducing the production of daily waste , and helping to clean our beaches and seas, is also a real action for the earth we love," concluded Chelsea.

Deputy Head of UNDP Indonesia Representative, Sophie Kemkhadze also explained the role of all parties to support the achievement of ecosystem restoration

"UNDP Indonesia continues to strive and implement various innovations, especially the opportunities that we can learn due to the Covid-19 pandemic, namely the transition to a future that is in synergy with nature and is sustainable,"

Chelsea Islan has been appointed by UNDP Indonesia since 2018 to become an SDGs Mover or a figure driving the issue of the Sustainable Development Agenda or Sustainable Development Goals. Chelsea's appointment was driven by her achievements in the arts as well as her concern and advocacy in the field of development, especially for issues of gender equality, climate change and poverty alleviation.
