JAKARTA - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon encourages the development of an open museum in the Watunonju megalithic site area, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi. The idea is considered to be a representative means of displaying the cultural wealth of the region without having to be limited by closed buildings.
"Central Sulawesi should have a museum that is able to represent its cultural wealth. The museum does not always have to be a walled building, but can be developed in the form of an open museum," said Fadli Zon when met in Sigi Regency, Tuesday.
According to him, the concept of an open air museum is very feasible to be applied in the megalithic area of Watunonju, including integrating it with other sites such as Pokekea and Behoa in Poso. However, he emphasized the importance of improving the information management system so that it is easier for the public to understand.
During the visit, the Ministry of Culture also inaugurated the storage facility, laboratory, and information center for the Lore Lindu megalithic area, which is located in Watunonju Village.
"With this laboratory and information center, we hope that the Watunonju megalithic area can develop as a cultural, historical, and religious tourist destination, which ultimately encourages the economic growth of the culture of the people of Central Sulawesi," said Fadli.
He explained that in the Watunonju area there were about 15 megalithic mounds which were an important part of prehistoric cultural heritage. The existence of the information center is expected to be an entrance to knowledge for the public and tourists regarding the Lore Lindu megalithic area.
"This can be a gateway to information for the megalithic area of Lore Lindu. In the future, we hope that more national cultural sites from Central Sulawesi can be designated," he said.
Fadli Zon also invited the provincial and local governments to play an active role in supporting the preservation and development of national culture, especially in Central Sulawesi.
He emphasized that the Lore Lindu area has extraordinary historical value and is a world cultural heritage that has existed for thousands of years. Therefore, the area needs to continue to be studied, protected, and promoted internationally.
