JAKARTA - The film Tjoet Nja 'Dhien will be replayed in Indonesian cinemas starting May 20, 2021 in Jakarta, to coincide with the National Awakening Day. BUMN Minister Erick Thohir is planned to attend the re-premiere of the film Tjoet Nya 'Dhien on Thursday, May 20 at Plaza Senayan.

The film, which was first released in 1988, or 33 years ago, has now undergone a complete restoration in the Netherlands. The format of the celuloid tape has been transformed to DCP, so the image is smoother and the color details are sharper.

"The presence of the State Minister for SOEs is expected to encourage the public to watch this film about national heroism," said the main character Tjoet Dhien, Christine Hakim, Wednesday (19/5) in Jakarta.

Christine Hakim revealed, if nothing gets in the way, it is also planned that every day there will be state officials watching Tjoet Nya 'Dhien.

According to Christine Hakim, the movement to return to the cinema to watch national films needs full support. The replay of Tjoet Nya 'Dhien provides an opportunity for the wider community to re-enjoy the colossal film that won eight Citra Cups 33 years ago.

For technical purposes, the length of the film has also been cut to under 2 hours. His film Tjoet 'Dhien was shown at the Cannes Film Festival, France, in 1989. At that time Tjoet Nya' Dhien was included in the La Semaine de la Critique program for a feature film.

"So when it was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 1989 the duration was too long. Director Eros Djaros then re-edited it with a duration of about one and a half hours. Now this film is then restored to digital and ready to be shown again in theaters," explained Christine.

"Don't forget that in this film we can also learn about loyalty and betrayal from those around us," added Christine.

For the initial stage, Tjoet Nya 'Dhien was only screened in five Jakarta theaters, each at Pondok Indah Mall (PIM) 1, Plaza Senayan (PS), Trans Studio Mall (TSM) Cibubur, Blok M Square and Bekasi.

The premiere was deliberately chosen on the day of national awakening because this film contains elements of heroism and high nationalism. Furthermore, if the audience's reception is enthusiastic, the film will also be shown in various us.
