Bage N Grind Roti Business Allegedly Violating Gluten Free Claims, Consumers Experience Side Effects

JAKARTA Felicia Novenna's Bakurate n Grind trademark is in the public spotlight after a number of customers accused the practice of fraud in product claims.

The bread business is widely known for marketing its products with gluten free, eggs free, and vegan labels, but some consumers claim to have serious side effects after consuming them.

This case emerged after Chef Yohanes Adhijaya distributed the results of laboratory tests on the Bake n Grind product on his personal Instagram account, @yohanesadhijaya. Based on the results of testing from PT Saraswati Indo Genetech dated September 24, 2025, three products, namely sourdough, cryossant, and bread which are proven to contain gluten.

The three products all contain gluten. My wife became a victim, once bought gluten free bread from you," Chef Yohanes wrote in his upload, Sunday, October 12.

The post sparked a wave of complaints from other customers.

One of them is an Instagram user @angelrumondor, who admits that he regularly consumes the Bakke n Grind bread from December 2023 to January 2024 because he believes in health claims and taste.

However, in February 2024, he had to undergo surgery to remove a breast tumor after the tumor size grew from 2 cm to 5 cm, which was allegedly triggered by inflammation due to gluten content.

"Just found out after a year and a half it turned out to be gluten inflammatory," he wrote.

Meanwhile, another consumer named Felicia Elizabeth said that Felicia Novenna had met herself in person to apologize and state her readiness to take responsibility for the losses suffered by customers.

"We have met in person. The person concerned admitted his mistake and apologized," said Felicia Elizabeth through her Instagram account @feliz88eliz.

Ia juga menyebut Felicia Novenna telah membuat surat pernyataan dan permohonan maaf tertulis bermaterai, yang mencantumkan komitmen pengembalian dana dan kompensasi bagi konsumen terdampak.

“Dia sudah membuat surat pernyataan & permohonan maaf tertulis bermaterai, termasuk mengembalikan uang deposit kepada semua member,” tambahnya.

Hingga kini, pihak Bake n Grind belum memberikan pernyataan resmi di media terkait dugaan pelanggaran tersebut.

Kasus ini menjadi peringatan penting bagi pelaku usaha pangan untuk memastikan kejujuran dalam labelisasi dan transparansi bahan baku, terutama bagi produk yang mengusung klaim kesehatan seperti gluten free atau vegan.

He also said that Felicia Novenna had made a statement letter and a written, joint apology, which included a commitment to refund and compensation for affected consumers.

"He has made a statement letter & a written joint apology, including returning the deposit money to all members," he added.

Until now, Bake n Grind has not provided an official statement in the media regarding the alleged violation.

This case is an important warning for food business actors to ensure honesty in the labelation and transparency of raw materials, especially for products that carry health claims such as gluten free or vegan.
