JAKARTA - Pakistani animator Junaid Miran has declared his readiness to sue the creators of the film Merah Putih: One for All. The lawsuit is allegedly related to the use of character assets created without obtaining permission for commercial use.
In his YouTube videos, Junaid Miran created videos with character assets that appear similar to those in the film. He also used AI (artificial intelligence) to create Indonesian voices.
Miran made this decision after seeing the overwhelming support from Indonesian netizens. However, he cannot do it alone.
"I am ready to hold them accountable for this injustice. I am ready to stand up and demand the accountability we desire," Junaid Miran said in the video.
"I'm doing this because you believe in me and give me the courage to say 'Enough,'" he said.
"But I need you to understand, I can't do it alone," said Junaid Miran.
Miran explained that he is an independent artist and is not affiliated with a major studio. He also admitted that filing a lawsuit is difficult because it involves filing a lawsuit across borders and finding accommodations to travel to the country of the lawsuit.
He also sells his work with Indonesian and Red and White themes to raise funds, but he will not ask for royalties from those who buy his work.
Junaid Miran first came to prominence after the release of the trailer for Merah Putih: One for All, which sparked controversy. He claimed to be the creator and owned the character assets shown in the trailer, but did not receive credit or payment for them.
The film Merah Putih: One for All also only attracted 2,000 viewers since its release near Indonesian Independence Day.
