Tokyo Becomes Best City For Workcation, What's The Reason?

JAKARTA - Tokyo has been officially named the best city for workcation, aka destinations working while on vacation 2025, according to the International Workplace Group (IWG), a flexible and hybrid workspace operator.

These results are part of IWG's third annual report, entitled 'Work from Anywhere Barometer'. The report lists the best cities in the world for workers who want to combine work and holidays.

IWG assesses 40 countries with a scale of 1-10 based on 12 criteria. Starting from climate, accommodation, culinary, transportation, daily necessities prices, internet speed, level of happiness, availability of flexible workspace, quality of culture, availability of digital nomad visas, proximity to beaches/mountains/national parks, and environmental sustainability.

Tokyo managed to achieve the top position due to its extraordinary internet speed. This success is also influenced by transportation infrastructure, security, cultural wealth, and digital nomad visas that have just been launched.

Not only that, but Tokyo also has easy access to the mountains, coastal areas, and the nasona park. This is ideal for hybrid workers who seek an energetic full urban atmosphere as well as easy to heal or clear their minds.

IWG CEO Mark Dixon said that in the future new cities will emerge that become the most attractive workcation destinations for hybrid workers. This is because the hybrid work system is increasingly trending and has proven to encourage productivity.

"Thanks to the hybrid work system and cloud technology, employees are now free to work from anywhere. This not only increases work-life balance and reduces burnout, but is also proven to encourage productivity," said Dixon.
