Shrek 5 Changes Release Date to June 2027

JAKARTA - Shrek 5 will not be released in 2026. Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation have confirmed the news.

Previously, DreamWorks announced Shrek 5, which will be released in July 2026 to celebrate the franchise's 25th anniversary. The three main actors: Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz are returning for the franchise.

Actress Zendaya joins the new cast as Shrek and Fiona's daughter.

Shortly after, the production company changed the release date to December 23, 2026. Now, the release date has been changed again to June 30, 2027.

The production company did not explain the reason for the release date change. This date was released a few weeks after a spin-off film based on the character Donkey was in the works.

Eddie Murphy explained that work on Shrek 5 is still underway.

A teaser was shared on Thursday, February 27. The short teaser shows Donkey (Eddie Murphy) asking a mirror, "Hey Magic Mirror, who's the fairest of them all?"

The Magic Mirror replies, "Why Shrek! Of course."

Then, the Magic Mirror shows its 21st-century side by showing a contemporary visual that elicits a response from Felicia and Fiona. Shrek asks, "Who makes things like this?"

In addition to the Donkey spin-off, the Shrek universe also expanded with the Puss in Boots film.
