JAKARTA - Kalimantan cultural literacy plays an important role in maintaining the wealth of ancestral identities and heritage in the midst of modernization.

Efforts to strengthen this literacy are increasingly evident by the inauguration of the Building of the Cultural Preservation Agency (BPK) Region XIV which includes East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan.

Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, when inaugurating the building in Samarinda on Friday, May 30, emphasized that this facility is not just an administrative building, but is a strategic center to strengthen the understanding and documentation of rich and diverse local cultures.

"This place must be a space for education and inspiration, a meeting place for ideas from various parties who care about Kalimantan culture," he said.

The BPK XIV building is designed to be multifunctional, equipped with a cultural library, collection showrooms, and mini studios for cultural-themed film screenings. Fadli assessed that the existence of this facility is important to support the production and appreciation of cultural works, including documentaries and fiction that raise local values.

He also said that this place would encourage collaboration between academics, indigenous communities, local artists, and the wider community. Through cross-sectoral cooperation, we can create cultural programs that are creative and have a broad impact, and can even be appointed to the international arena," he said.

During the visit, Fadli had a dialogue with cultural activists in East Kalimantan, including young filmmakers, traditional musicians, and local researchers. He emphasized the government's commitment to providing support through various joint production financing and facilitation schemes (co-production).

"Kalimantan has great potential in the field of film based on local wisdom. With the right strategy, these films can penetrate the global market and bring the cultural narrative of Kalimantan into the world," said Fadli.

Fadli Zon also emphasized that the Ministry of Culture continues to strive for the development of open, adaptive, and innovative cultural infrastructure. Diversity is our strength. Culture must continue to grow through deep work, dialogue, and literacy," he concluded.
