JAKARTA - Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims around the world, where they perform fasting from dawn to sunset.

However, due to the geographical difference in location, the duration of fasting in each country can vary widely. In Ramadan 2025, some countries will fast more than 20 hours. Meanwhile in other countries, the duration of fasting is only about 11 hours.

In Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, fasting will last up to 20 hours due to the phenomenon of 'central sun' which causes longer days in the area near the Arctic Circle. Iceland also experienced similar conditions with a fast duration of 19 hours 59 minutes. While in Finland about 19 hours 9 minutes.

This also happens in Norway, Sweden, Canada, and Alaska, where high-latitude locations cause the day to be longer, thus becoming the longest fasting duration in the world.

The Country With The Longest Fasting Duration

On the other hand, the shortest duration of fasting occurs in the Southern Hemisphere, where the afternoon time is shorter in this period.

In cities such as Brasilia, Brazil and Harare, Zimbabwe, the duration of fasting ranges from 12 to 13 hours.

Johannesburg and Cape Town in South Africa, as well as Ciudad del Este, Paraguay and Montevideo, Uruguay, will undergo the shortest fast with a duration of about 11 to 12 hours. Buenos Aires, Argentina and Christchurch, New Zealand fasted for a duration of 12 hours.

Meanwhile, in King Scott, Chile, fasting will last between 11 and 12 hours. This makes Chile one of the shortest countries in the world.
