JAKARTA - Anggun singer C. Sasmi spoke up after her name was accused of supporting Zionism by a social media account.
The allegations came after the account shared old Anggun posts on social media X (formerly Twitter) from 2015 and 2016, which contained comments about the Eurovision Song Contest event.
"There was an account social media that defamed me and accused me of supporting 'Zionism'. They showed 2 posts from my 2015 and 2016 account X where I commented via live Tweets about Eurovision Song Contest," wrote Anggun C Sasmi quoted by VOI from Instagram @anggun_cipta, Monday, February 24.
At that time, Anggun commented on the various countries participating in the competition, including Israel.
"At that time I commented on almost 42 countries participating in the TV program. One of the countries I commented on was Israel," he said.
The allegations grew after the account also shared the moment when Anggun spokeswoman for French judges at Eurovision 2023, where he read out the points given to Israel.

"In the same post they also published when I was spokesman for French judges in 2023, who gave points to Israel, staying on the Eurovision Song Contest show which was broadcast live on TV," he added.
Anggun emphasized that his comments at the music event had nothing to do with political support for Israel.
"Participating in an event as big as Eurovision Song Contest and doing live Tweets about the event where I commented on songs and singers from many countries including Israel, did not make me a political supporter of Israel," he stressed.
He also considered that the accusation was a manipulation of facts that were deliberately made to make it the target of hatred.
"I speak in the context of music, but their posts are clearly out of the context of the music to make me a target of hatred," explained Anggun.
Feeling disadvantaged, Anggun plans to take legal action by reporting this case based on the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE).
"The manipulation of these facts and defamation will be reported based on the ITE Law through legal members," he continued.
Finally, Anggun emphasized that he never supported Israeli politics and always upheld human values.
"In the midst of world conflicts, I always uphold humanity. I have never supported Israel's politics towards Palestine!" he said.
