JAKARTA - The Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) is developing the Indonesian website.travel which is currently entering the launch of phase 1 by presenting a more immersive, informative, and user-friendly design and improvement of website features. This development is expected to strengthen the site as the main door for prospective tourists to get to know Indonesia's destinations more and more memorable.
Minister of Tourism (Menpar) Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, in a discussion with a number of national media editors who took place at Balairung Soesilo Soedarman, Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, Thursday (20/2/2025), said this effort was the Ministry of Tourism's commitment to digital transformation in the tourism sector to reach wider tourists.
"According to data from the Amadeus platform, there is almost one billion searches regarding Indonesia but only 13.9 million foreign tourist visits in 2024. The conversion is only one percent. This shows that although interest is high, there are still challenges in turning this search into a visit," said Menpar Widiyanti.
Menpar Widiyanti hopes that the launch of the latest innovation phase 1 from the Indonesian website.travel can increase the number of tourist visits to Indonesia. Tourism 5.0 development itself is one of the five priority programs in 2025 developed by the Ministry of Tourism.
"In addition to redesigning the appearance of the Indonesian website.travel, the main features that have been improved include optimizing search for tourism information, digitizing Calendar of Events, which was previously only PDF, we flip pages, we can set the date, the destination," explained Menpar Widiyanti.
The revamping process will continue into three stages. After a strong digital foundation is formed, it will then enter the second stage, namely the development of AI to create a smarter and more personal tourism experience so that it will make it easier for tourists to plan their journey.
With AI technology, Menpar Widiyanti wants to ensure that every tourist gets travel recommendations according to their preferences.
The last step in transforming the Indonesian website.travel is the complete and sustainable digitization of tourism. Where Kemenpar will explore various digital technologies and tools to optimize the tourism ecosystem. From the management of tourist data to the application of artificial intelligence and direct interaction.
"We want to provide a seamless and technology-based experience. With this approach, Indonesia is not only adapting to the digital era but is also a pioneer in the application of technology in the tourism sector," said Menpar.
Currently digitalization is no longer an option, but a must and a necessity to be present at every stage of tourist travel (user journey). This is because several reasons such as 30 percent of the world's current tourists are Gen Z. This generation has a different way of finding and absorbing information.
Then in the midst of global competition, it is necessary to reach wider and faster tourists. With digital technology, it can compete more effectively and attract tourists to come to Indonesia.
Through digitization, information about Indonesian tourism can also be curated so that tourists can design and realize their more personalized and hopeful journey.

"We must ensure that access is easy to accurate information and reliable services. Currently in Indonesia, they need a quick solution so that the journey remains smooth. After returning home, their experience must be able to be implemented through digital platforms to attract other tourists. This is not just technology but about creating an easier, comfortable and memorable tourist experience," said Menpar.
