Louis Vuitton Launches Lobster Bag, Pharrell Williams X Nigo Collaboration For IDR 291 Million

JAKARTA - Louis Vuitton has again attracted the attention of the fashion world by releasing a lobster bag in the form of a collaboration between Pharrell Williams and Nigo. They collaborated to show off their work at the fashion event Men's Fall-Winter 2025 show in Paris, France.

Meeting in the early 2000s, Pharrell collaborated with Nigo, a designer who was then still based in Tokyo Japan to set up a Billionaire Boys Club label. Previously, Nigo had been known through his nickname, A Bathing Ape.

"When I first met Nigo, I never dreamed of being able to go as far as we are now and we managed to create something," Williams said in an interview ahead of his latest fashion show collection with Nigo, quoted by VOI from the WWD page on Wednesday, January 29.

Previously, Williams and Nigo had collaborated under the Louis Vuitton label, introducing iconic sunglasses during the Marc Jacobs leadership era. Millionaires model 1, which was first released in 2004. This is still one of people's favorite collections to date.

This unique lobster-shaped bag is reportedly priced at a fantastic price of around USD 18,000 or IDR 291 million. However, this is not the only lobster-themed bag in this collection.

Several other accessories, such as body-shaped bag hangers and lobster caps, also decorate the collection of Keepall, mini suitcases, and Louis Vuitton tote bag.

The lobster-shaped fashion collection first became a fashion icon in 1937 when legendary designer Elsa Schiaparelli collaborated with Salvadoran artist Dal aired to create an organza silk dress with a lobster motif. Previously, Salvador Dal total also created a phone called the iconic 'Lobster Telephone' in 1936.

Since then, various designers have adopted lobster motifs in their works. Bertrand Guyon and Daniel Roseberry, as creative directors of Schiaparelli, include lobster elements in the 2017 spring couture collection and the 2024 spring ready-to-wear collection.

In addition, well-known designers such as Philip Treasury, Thom Browne, and John Galliano have also presented lobster-themed designs. One of the most famous is the head accessory decorated with the Swarovski crystal worn by Lady Gaga in 2010, as well as the 2006 fall Dior couture collection by Galliano which features a lobster-like coat and dress.
