Welcoming Chinese New Year 2576, 3,000 Lanterns Hiasi Wihara In Deli Serdang

JAKARTA - Wihara Maha Vihara Maitreya, one of the largest Buddhist places of worship in Indonesia located in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, welcomed Chinese New Year 2576 Kongzili with 3,000 lanterns.

"About 3,000 lanterns have been installed to enliven this year's Chinese New Year," said Maha Vihara Management Maitreya Dicky in Medan, Monday, January 25, 2025, as reported by ANTARA.

Dicky said the installation of the lanterns means lighting, with the hope that in the future life can be better, such as work, business, and other activities.

In addition, he said, in line with the theme carried out at Wihara Maha Vihara Maitreya, namely Indonesia's prosperity and world peace.

"So we invite Buddhists who come to worship to pray with this theme, in order to create prosperity and be more harmonious with peace," said Dicky.

In addition to holding public worship, the management held a bazaar for 15 special nights by displaying MSMEs, both food, clothing, and others.

"This bazaar is to increase MSME income in enlivening Chinese New Year this year, hopefully this year it can be even better in the future," said Dicky.

The Chinese New Year 2025, which coincides with 2576 Kongzili, will be celebrated on Wednesday 29 January 2025. The determination of the date as a national holiday is based on a Joint Decree (SKB) of three ministers.

This big day is an important moment for the Indonesian people, especially the Chinese community, to celebrate a tradition rich in meaning and culture.

In addition, the government also set a joint leave on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. The addition of this leave provides more time for the community to prepare for the Chinese New Year celebrations better, such as gathering with family, visiting relatives, and preparing various traditions typical of the Chinese New Year.
